Ecopoetry in Depth: Major Poets with Winifred Hughes Spar, The Watershed Institute

Share:

Thursday February 19, 2026
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

This new course will offer an in-depth look at the work of major American figures in ecopoetry, from the seminal forerunners of the late twentieth century to experimental and cutting-edge voices of the twenty-first. This format will allow us to spend time reading and discussing multiple poems by individual poets, including Gary Snyder, A.R. Ammons, Brenda Hillman, Forrest Gander, Evelyn Reilly, Jorie Graham, and more. We will follow along as they attempt to establish a new paradigm for our human relationship to the natural world while responding to an ever-heightening sense of crisis. We will be reading now-classic ecopoems as well as up-to-the-minute work.

Violist Tabea Zimmerman & Spanish Pianist Javier Perianes, Richardson Auditorium

Thursday February 19, 2026
7:30 PM

On Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 7:30PM in Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall, Princeton University Concerts (PUC) presents violist Tabea Zimmerman in a rare U.S. recital appearance, featuring the long-awaited debut of Spanish pianist Javier Perianes. It is no exaggeration to say that you have not heard the extraordinary power of the viola until you have heard Tabea Zimmermann play it. She is often cited as the world's greatest living violist, and her sold-out performances in past PUC seasons have been revelatory triumphs. The duo brings a deeply retrospective program, spanning the lyricism of Schumann's Fantasy Pieces and Brahms' late second viola sonata, Britten's melancholic tribute to Renaissance composer John Dowland in its seldom-performed original arrangement, and Shostakovich's poignant final composition, written weeks before the composer's death.
