Performance: American Traveling Morrice, Hinds Plaza
The American Travelling Morrice, comprised of Morris dancers and musicians from across North America and abroad, will give a pop up performance on Hinds Plaza as part of their annual tour. Morris dancing is an English country tradition, with roots in medieval street theatre. For hundreds of years, teams of dancers have capered and stepped through the intricate patterns of the dance, clashing wooden sticks and waving handkerchiefs in time to lively traditional tunes. Ancient in its origins it has been passed down by word of mouth. After nearly becoming extinct, the Morris saw a revival at the end the nineteenth century.
